To know the history of one’s nation and of the region, where one lives, is particularly important in today’s global developing world. Over the recent times, the interest in presentations of the regions lying next to the borders between countries has increased, and activities, whose concept contributes to the removal of the barriers in the area around the borders, are being supported. The effort of the united Europe to strengthen mutual cooperation of cross-border partners has also found its supporters in the villages of Vavrišovo and Valašská Bystřice, who decided in 2008 to prepare a common project focused on the revival of historic events of regional importance.
The people living in the Lipton region know only a little about the regional historic events. These remain kept in the archives and are only seldom presented in schools. Hardly anyone knows about the “kuruc fights” of the 18th century. A group of devotees from the village of Vavrišovo, which has been developing since 1993, has thus decided to embark on cooperation with the Czech village of Valašská Bystřice, where the history of border guards composed of “portáš people” has been successfully revived through the establishment of the so-called “Valašský sbor portášsky” (artistic group). Following the example of its Czech partner, the village of Vavrišovo has established the so-called “Hornoliptovský kurucký regiment”, whose main goal is to obtain knowledge about the history of the Fight at Vavrišovo, to actively present period events related to military history, and to create an innovative product for the tourist industry, which shall contribute to the formation of an attractive identity of the village of Vavrišovo.
After several mutual meetings and debates, the two partners have submitted a common project focused on the revival of historic events, which shall contribute to the propagation and support of the tourist industry in both neighbouring regions, and which shall also strengthen cross-border cooperation in organising common cultural activities and events.
THE SPECIFIC GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO:
- Construct representative venues for organising cultural – social activities focused on regional history and to produce publications supporting education of the regional people in the field of regional history.
- Organise cultural and educational events focused on the revival of historic events of regional importance and to strengthen the cooperation of the partner villages in the field of cultural exchange.
- Mutually propagate common activities on both sides of the borders and to present them to the general public and to the tourists in order to support the tourist industry in the regions situated next to the borders.
